WSMC / Keith Barnes Memorial Superbike Race
09/24/00

Every September, the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club presents the Keith Barnes Memorial Open Superbike Race. Keith was a racer with the WSMC who lost his life racing in 1995. The Open Superbike Race has been a vehicle to raise funds to benefit injured racers. This year, Steve and the daughter of LeAnn Machado, who was killed in a racing accident earlier this year, were the intended recipients of the Memorial funds. In a gracious act of generosity, LeAnn's family donated their share of the proceeds to Steve. A whopping $2400 was raised this year to assist Steve in his rehab process.

To the WSMC:

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone in the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club for the continued support of Steve during this difficult time.

Even though we are all competitors on the track, it is situations like Steve’s that remind us just how tight-knit the racing community really is. Racers have a long history of coming together to aid a rider in need. Today you have written another chapter in that history. We have always been proud to call Willow Springs our home track and we consider everyone in the WSMC as part of our family.

We would also like to say a special thank you to the Machado family for their generous offer to contribute their share of the Keith Barnes Memorial proceeds to aid Steve’s rehab fund. Even though LeAnn’s tragic death is wieghing heavy on their hearts, they have reached out to help another racer in need.

Steve asked us to send these words on his behalf:

"I am grateful for the support of my brother and sister racers. Knowing that you are pulling for me strengthens my will to give the rehab program everything that I have. I hope one day that I can beat this injury and show up on a third Sunday of the month and thank you all in person. Your help here today will go a long way towards letting me do that. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart."

Kindest Regards,

Aramel Racing and the Laszko Family
